Peter Pan’s Growing Old
(Written by S. Trainor, 2014)
I was barely three,
Sitting on his knee out on the front porch
Fairy tales and storybooks,
Dashing tales of Captain Hook and Peter Pan
And he’d say, “Second star to the right
And straight on ‘til morning light”
CHORUS
And we flew high in the tales that he told
And sail on ships, searching for lost gold
Time stood still down in Never NeverLand
But Peter Pan’s growing old
Peter Pan’s growing old
Well we moved down south,
To a better car and a bigger house in Carolina
Grandpa would visit every year
Once he gave me my first beer out on the back porch
And he’d say, “Second star to the right
And straight on ‘til morning light”
(CHORUS)
Well it was in late November
That he took his final breath
He was smiling as he said
“I lived a good life, with my kids and my wife
and death is an awfully great adventure”
Now I’m 22 years old
And he is nothing but a ghost
Watching over me
If you can see a man in me
When you look into my eyes
He’s the reason why
(CHORUS)
